A former Nation Media Group journalist, Isaac Swila, was kidnapped on February 26 by men who identified themselves as police officers from the Kwekwe Squad.

According to the original account, Swila had just withdrawn money from a Cooperative Bank ATM at the TRM branch when four armed men approached him and his cousin. The men showed their identification cards before bundling Swila and his cousin into a white saloon car.

Ordeal Details

Swila recalled that the men warned him of dire consequences if he reported the incident, saying, "They nearly strangled me to death and warned me of dire consequences If ever reported the incident".

The journalist and his cousin were allegedly beaten with metal rods, robbed of their valuables, including cash and mobile phones, before being dumped near Kamiti Maximum Prison.

Aftermath

Swila and his cousin recorded statements at the Kasarani Police Station and received treatment at the Nairobi Hospital. Despite this, Swila expressed concerns about his safety, believing his life to be in danger.
