A former President of Kenya, Daniel Arap Moi, has reached the age of 90. Here are some key facts about his life:

  1. His first house was located at Timboiwo in Sacho and still stands today.
  2. Moi never attended a driving school; instead, his friend Paul Chemirmir taught him how to drive a Land Rover KFF 82.
  3. He started his first business with friend Reuben Chesire, owning the Rift Valley Transport Company, selling animal skins, paraffin, operating a posho mill, and running a general store.
  4. Moi's favorite meal consists of lean meat, particularly overcooked lamb, ugali wimbi, and traditional foods without spices.
  5. In 1957, he played a key role in forming the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) alongside Samuel Ayany, Stephen Kioni, and Ignatius Mkok.
  6. Moi was named after the biblical figure Daniel, who refused to worship any god other than the one true God.
  7. In 1940, he was a student at the Government African School in Kapsabet, registered as student number 503.
  8. During his time as head boy at GAS Kapsabet, Moi led a strike protesting the quality of meat served.
  9. Moi served as the unopposed Member of Parliament for Baringo Central for 30 years, until 1997 when Amos Kandie challenged him in an election.
  10. Earlier in his life, Moi lived in a single room with Ronald Ngala, Justus Ole Tipis, and Jean Marie Seroney, where they would cook meat with a lot of spices daily.
  11. Moi is known to be a deeply spiritual person, having driven cattle for 10 kilometers in his youth to obtain a Bible.
