A protest rally in Mumias turned chaotic, with accusations that some individuals hijacked the event, initially intended to support the local sugar-cane factory, and transformed it into an anti-government demonstration.
According to the statement, UDF MP Benjamin Washiali is under investigation. He allegedly met with Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko earlier in the week, who is believed to be connected to the funding behind the demonstration.
During the rally, Washiali was involved in a scuffle with a group of protesters who claimed he had hijacked the event, turning it into a confrontation between ODM and UDF supporters.
