September 12, 2018, marked a significant change in plans for Hon. Raila Odinga's US trip. The visit, initially set to begin on September 14, 2018, was postponed due to the impending arrival of Hurricane Florence in North Carolina.
According to Duke University, which was scheduled to host Odinga from September 16 to 19, 2018, the extreme weather conditions necessitated the postponement. The university, located in Durham, North Carolina, was preparing for the storm and had cancelled classes from Wednesday afternoon through Sunday.
As a result, it was agreed that Odinga's lecture would be rescheduled for next month. Odinga, who was in Ghana for the burial of former UN Secretary General Dr. Kofi Annan, would return to the country instead of proceeding to the US.
