The Executive Director of Centre for Human Rights and Democracy, Ken Wafula, has stated that the late ICC witness, Meshack Yebei, was killed by individuals associated with Deputy President William Ruto.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Wafula alleged that Ruto used National Intelligence Service (NIS) operatives and hitmen from the Flying Squad to kill and threaten witnesses in his case.

According to Wafula, Yebei was recruited by Ruto's network to coordinate the bribing of other witnesses in the case and was promised over $50,000 (5 million shillings) for his services. However, Yebei did not receive the payment and later approached Wafula, seeking help.

Wafula claimed that after Yebei threatened to expose the individuals behind the witness tampering scheme to the ICC, Ruto's associates hired an NIS operative to kill him, and his body was found in Tsavo.

Wafula expressed concerns that witnesses who have recanted their testimonies may be targeted for 'elimination' to destroy evidence completely.
