A local artist has publicly expressed frustration with music provider Mdundo.com, citing several reasons for dissatisfaction including breach of contract, low payment for artistic works, and lack of transparent monitoring of downloads.
The artist outlined these concerns in a Facebook post, stating:
Morning Fam. We Are Moving as a United FRONT this Morning to terminate our Contracts with Music Providers, MDUNDO.COM. We Feel that our INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY is Infringed and It's High Time we stood UNITED and Protect our own, we need to streamline all the infrastructure and structures that come with it for the sake of our Arts and Future generations'. REASONS: 1. Breach of Contract 2. Pay artists peanuts for their products. 3. Mis-representation (play foreign music on their own events/shows) 4. Exploitation of Artists as FREE MARKETING Agents for their CORPORATE Clients e.g KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN 5. NO TRANSPARENT MONITORING SYSTEM OF DOWNLOADS. 6. Joyride on Free Marketing: Mdundo.com does not in any way share/market Artists' Products hence we market our own product and still get a 30% UNFAIR CUT.. This Accounts for SO MANY OTHER REASONS for our Dis-ASSOCIATION with the Music Providers. WE ARE MEETING AT KENCOM BUS TERMINAL at 11a.m. In A show of SOLIDARITY we will Pass a WORD OF PRAYER at NAIROBI HOSPITAL where our Beloved Sister @W_angechi lies Recovering from a FATAL ACCIDENT as we Proceed To LIBERATE our MUSIC at Mdundo.com Offices, NGNG ROAD.
The post also mentioned plans for a meeting and a show of solidarity for a fellow artist recovering from an accident.
