A 38-year-old man, David Ndungu Wanjohi, has begun a hunger strike at Kenyatta National Hospital to raise awareness about the shortage of radiotherapy machines in the country.
According to a post on the Kenyatta National Hospital Facebook page, Mr. Wanjohi has chained himself to a tree within the hospital and vows not to eat until the government and well-wishers respond to his call to help alleviate the pain of cancer patients.
Mr. Wanjohi stated that he has no relative or close friend undergoing radiotherapy treatment and is doing this solely to help the many Kenyans suffering from cancer.
The post on the hospital's Facebook page described the situation as MAN ON HUNGER STRIKE FOR A GOOD CAUSE, explaining that Mr. Wanjohi aims to raise funds to purchase radiotherapy machines.
