Police in Murang'a intervened to separate supporters of two Jubilee leaders, Murang'a county Governor Mwangi wa Iria and Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau, who almost clashed on Monday, February 6.
The clash occurred when Wa Iria's campaign vehicles headed towards a venue where Kamau was holding his rally. The two factions started shouting at each other and squared off before police moved in to calm them down.
One person was arrested during the incident, and police impounded 20 vehicles belonging to Wa Iria's campaign trail. The governor later drove to the Kabatia Police Station to demand the release of the vehicles.
Wa Iria and Kamau are political rivals, with Kamau having declared his intention to unseat the governor in the upcoming election. Both leaders are seeking the Murang'a county governorship seat under a Jubilee ticket.
According to reports, Wa Iria has branded many vehicles with some fitted with public address systems to campaign for him and mobilize residents to register as voters.
