Tensions are rising within the ruling regime due to Deputy President William Ruto's perceived lack of support for Jubilee Alliance Party (JAP) candidate Patrick Tutui in the Kajiado Central by-election.

In an effort to boost the party's chances, President Uhuru Kenyatta made a personal visit to Kajiado.

The situation began to unfold after unrest in Narok led to the arrest and detention of five Maasai MPs and Senator Stephen Ole Ntutu. Despite their influence, these senior Maa politicians have not been actively campaigning for the Jubilee Alliance candidate.
