A recent confession by Moses Kuria has allegedly angered Statehouse officials. According to reports, Kuria claimed that top Mt Kenya mafia officials had a role in fixing Deputy President William Samoei Ruto at the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Following Kuria's revelations, several Mt Kenya officials reportedly met at the residence of a former government official to discuss a damage control strategy. The meeting included senior officials from the National Intelligence Service (NIS).
Kuria allegedly confessed to peasants in the Rift Valley that he was part of a group that strategized and executed a plan to set up CORD leader Raila Odinga and his co-pentagon member William Ruto for war crimes at the ICC. However, Raila Odinga was not among the Ocampo six due to insufficient evidence.
Ruto, who was then an ODM minister, was successfully set up at the ICC. He is currently under trial for charges allegedly manufactured by Kuria and other ICC fixers, including Nancy Gitau, Mutea Iringo, and Kimemia, according to Ruto's lawyer Karim Khan.
A Statehouse source claims that Statehouse operatives are unhappy with Kuria's utterances, which may result in some form of punishment. However, Devolution CS Ann Waiguru is reportedly pleased with Kuria's revelation, as it has helped shift attention away from the pressure on her to resign over corruption allegations in the National Youth Service (NYS) and her devolution docket.
In response to Kuria's comments, Statehouse advisors have allegedly instructed Dennis Itumbi to use social media to neutralize any potential backlash. Itumbi has since posted letters sent by the ODM party to the UN Security Council, which capture the sentiments of Ruto and his ODM rebels.
An ODM online supporter has pointed out that the letters published by TNA are an attempt to deflect attention from Kuria's confession. The supporter argues that the letters simply reflect the position of those who demanded that the alleged perpetrators be taken to the Hague, and that Kuria's actions were a key factor in Ruto's ICC case.
