Published on July 23, 2019, a story by Citizen TV highlighted the struggles of Kelvin Ochieng, a 24-year-old first-class honors graduate from the University of Nairobi.

Despite graduating with honors in Actuarial Science in 2017, Ochieng found himself living on the streets of Nairobi after failing to secure a job.

However, his fortunes have since changed, with several companies extending job offers to him.

Among the companies that have offered Ochieng a job are Kenya Forest Service, Nairobi County government, Migori County government, Naivas Supermarket, Vivo Energy, and Centum Investments.

Others include Jamii Bora Bank, Kenya Red Cross, UAP Old Mutual, Triple OK Law Advocates, Actuary Patrick Waweru, Resolution Health East Africa Ltd, and Kenya Ports Authority.

Deloitte, a company that Ochieng previously sought a job from, has also offered him a position.

His former classmates, including Austin Omondi, have expressed shock at his situation, with Omondi saying, “I can’t get round to how I feel about the fact that Obede, index number one in my year at Maranda and who went on to become one of the best Actuarial students at UoN, is in the streets. It’s something else,”
