This week, at least five people were killed by mobs in Nairobi in separate incidents, highlighting a concerning trend of the public taking the law into their own hands.
On Monday, four suspects were killed in Kangemi, Tassia, and Kibera.
In one incident, 23-year-old Kevin Mungai was killed by a mob after being caught stealing from a neighbor's house in Katina, Kangemi. His body was taken to City Mortuary.
In another incident, a man was killed by a mob after a failed robbery attempt. The suspect, who was with two others, had tried to steal a phone and cash from Edwin Bulemi. After Mr. Bulemi raised the alarm, the public responded, cornering one of the suspects and killing him. A knife was recovered from the deceased.
Meanwhile, in Kibera, a man was killed after allegedly breaking into a house in Kisumu Ndogo. Kennedy Otieno reported that two men broke into his house, stealing a TV and DVD worth Sh15,000. After raising the alarm, neighbors responded and subjected one of the suspects to mob violence. The suspect was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
