On February 22, 2017, transport along Nairobi’s Outer Ring Road was disrupted due to protests by Tassia residents. The demonstrations were in response to the poor condition of a link road into the estate.
The residents complained that the link road had become impassable and appealed to the county government for assistance. They claimed that the road, which was excavated and abandoned by contractor Tevene Enterprises in the previous year, posed a significant hazard to both motorists and pedestrians.
According to the residents, some sections of the road were flooded with sewage, while others were covered in sharp stone fillings. The protesters caused a major traffic jam on Outer Ring Road as they demanded that Governor Evans Kidero resume road works.
Roads and Transport Executive Mohammed Abdullahi stated that the county had cancelled Tevene Enterprises' contract due to the company's subpar performance. Abdullahi explained, "The contractor failed to complete the works, so we are terminating the contract and tendering it again."
