According to statistics posted on the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) website, the number of people killed and injured in road crashes in Kenya increased by 45% between January and March 2016 compared to the same period in 2015.
Pedestrians were the most affected, with 326 deaths recorded. The rise in road crashes has been attributed to poor road user behavior, including drink-driving, speeding, and low levels of road safety awareness.
