Teenager in Nandi County Takes Own Life After Bread Theft Allegation

A 15-year-old boy from Mosobecho village, Nandi County, has taken his own life after being accused of stealing bread worth Sh 50 from a local shop.

Kipkoech Isaac, a student at Friends School Kilama, was allegedly locked in the shop by its owner, who threatened to burn him alive over the theft.

Circumstances Surrounding the Death

According to village elder Ben Ruto, the shop owner had accused Kipkoech of stealing bread and detained him in the shop for several hours, threatening him with death.

When the owner briefly left the shop to attend to a customer, Kipkoech used his shirt to hang himself.

Response and Aftermath

Kipkoech's body was moved to the mortuary, and a manhunt for the shop owner is underway.

At the time of the incident, Kipkoech was under the care of his grandmother, as his parents reside in Mombasa.
