Joyce Lay, the Taita Taveta Women Representative, has spoken about the difficulties she has faced in her life. Born in a small village in Mwatate, Lay grew up in poverty.
In a recent media interview, Lay revealed that she attempted suicide at the age of 19 after becoming pregnant. This led to her leaving school, and months later, her son passed away.
Lay's challenges continued when she married her husband, William Lay, who is now seeking a divorce citing 'irreconcilable differences'.
Due to health complications, Lay underwent surgery to remove her uterus. However, she stated that her husband supported her throughout this period, saying:
My husband stood by me even when I was an embarrassment. He was by me when we couldn’t even enjoy conjugal rights and through a second surgery to remove my uterus.
Despite their shared struggles, it is unclear why William has decided to divorce Lay.
