President Uhuru Kenyatta faces demands from Kalenjin leaders who have threatened to join the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD), led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, if their conditions are not met.
In Kapsabet, during a fundraiser attended by President Kenyatta and his Deputy, William Ruto, Rift Valley leaders called for the reinstatement of Felix Koskei, the suspended Agriculture Cabinet Secretary. They argued that Koskei had been cleared of graft allegations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Director of Public Prosecutions, Keriako Tobiko.
Nandi Senator Stephen Sang, leading the United Republican Party (URP) politicians, claimed the EACC was targeting Kalenjins and URP. The leaders urged President Kenyatta to reinstate Koskei to maintain their support for the Jubilee coalition.
However, when President Kenyatta spoke, he avoided addressing the issue directly, leaving Ruto's supporters confused and upset. It remains unclear whether Deputy President Ruto influenced the demand made by his community to President Kenyatta.
