Somalia's al-Shabaab militia group carried out a brutal punishment on a 27-year-old man on February 17, cutting off his hand following a Sharia court order.
According to residents of Galhareri, a town under al-Shabaab control, the man was found 'guilty' of stealing materials worth around KSh 30,000.
The group, which seeks to overthrow the Western-backed government of Somalia and impose its strict interpretation of Sharia law, is known for administering harsh punishments to residents living in areas under its command.
Meanwhile, al-Shabaab has denounced President-elect Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, also known as Farmajo, after he expressed support for the African Union Mission in Somalia, which includes the Kenya Defence Forces.
The militants launched mortar attacks on the presidential palace in Mogadishu when Farmajo was occupying the residence.
