Deputy President William Ruto and CORD leader Raila Odinga are known to be fierce political rivals, each having sworn to become the president of Kenya in the future.
In a recent opinion poll by Ipsos, Kenyans were asked to say who between Ruto and Raila will be president before the other. The survey showed that 58% of respondents believed Ruto was very likely or somewhat likely to be elected president in the future, while Raila received approval from 50% of those interviewed.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka fared better than Raila, with a rating of 56%. The survey, which interviewed 2,057 respondents in 42 counties between January 9 and 26, 2017, also found that 45% of respondents said Raila will never be president, while 37% held the same view about Ruto.
The poll's findings come as Ruto has vowed to run for the presidency in 2022, while Raila is gunning for the presidency for the fourth time in the August 8 election, having lost three times in the past.
