Former Finance Minister Musalia Mudavadi has expressed concern over the absence of a Cabinet Secretary or Principal Secretary at the Treasury, warning it could spell trouble for the government.

Speaking to Citizen TV, Mudavadi stated that the charges levelled against CS Henry Rotich and his deputy Kamau Thugge have dented Kenya's image internationally and could worsen relations if the two stay in office.

“Treasury is a very hot seat….as it stands things have changed, this is not the error where one could just blame the in discrepancies on the person above them. Essentially they are responsible for every thing to do with money in the government,” Mudavadi told Citizen TV on July 23, 2019.

Mudavadi emphasized that the President can appoint any Cabinet Secretary in acting capacity to hold the office, citing the President's experience as Finance Minister as a testament to his understanding of the importance of the post.

He urged Rotich to 'do the honourable thing' and resign from office, warning that continued service under the allegations would paint the government in a bad light.
