KPMDU Secretary General Ouma Olunga penned a letter to President Uhuru Kenyatta following the president's order for doctors to resume duty.
Olunga began by acknowledging the frustration and disappointment felt by both the government and the public due to the ongoing strike, which had lasted for 95 days.
The letter emphasized that the strike was not merely a contest or a greedy quest for more money, but rather an industrial dispute aimed at restoring the dignity and determining the destiny of Kenyan doctors.
Olunga explained that the union's primary goal was to influence public policy regarding the engagement between doctors and the government, as well as improving healthcare for all citizens.
The letter highlighted the challenges faced by doctors during the strike, including emotional abuse, insults, and ridicule, but also expressed forgiveness and a commitment to moving forward.
Olunga stated that despite the difficulties, the union had demonstrated resolve and unity, and he urged doctors to remain strong and united in their pursuit of a better healthcare system.
The letter concluded by expressing hope for the swift conclusion of the signing of Recognition Agreements, CBA, and subsequent negotiations as guided by the Court of Appeal under the mediation of religious leaders.
