Oscar Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o has become the first African woman to appear on the cover of Vogue twice, gracing the magazine's cover for the second time in a row.
In an interview with Vogue, Nyong'o revealed that she initially felt ashamed of her Luo heritage. She stated that everything associated with the Luo culture and language, Dholuo, made her uncomfortable. As a result, she preferred speaking English or Kiswahili to avoid being identified with her tribe.
Nyong'o also shared that she struggled with her own identity, to the point where she considered changing her skin color. However, she eventually came to realize that her skin color did not define her worth, and that self-acceptance was key.
Born in Mexico, Nyong'o has been involved in various endeavors, including her role as a global elephant ambassador for the conservation organization Wild Aid. Her personal life has also garnered attention, including her past relationship with Somali Canadian rapper K'naan, which ended in January 2015.
