Al-Shabaab, a terror group operating in Somalia, has been responsible for decades of violence against Somali citizens.
The group has recently expanded its reach, causing harm to Kenyan citizens through bombings and shootings.
According to reports, Al-Shabaab has adopted a new strategy of recruiting young, intelligent, and energetic individuals from East Africa to develop sophisticated tactics and expand into other regions.
The National Intelligence Service (NIS) has released a list of university students who have allegedly been recruited by the group.
The following students are named:
- Ahmed Iman - Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) - reportedly heads the video and propaganda division for Al-Shabaab
- Lukeman Osman Isa - Uganda University - allegedly participated in the recent Boure attack
- Abdulrahman Abdullahi - University of Nairobi (UoN) - was reportedly among the attackers at Garissa University
- Sadil Abdalla - International University of Africa School of Medicine - was arrested while attempting to travel to Somalia
- Abdul Hajira - University of Nairobi (UoN) - allegedly carried out a suicide bombing at Pangani Police Station, killing two police officers
