On July 13, 2019, a violent confrontation erupted at the Mashambani public toilet in Nakuru's city centre, leaving several people injured.
According to court records, Peter Njoroge, the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Biashara Ward, was among the 11 suspects charged with creating disturbance at the public facility.
Njoroge, also known as Wanyaguthii, denied the charges alongside the other suspects.
Members of the Mashambani Stage Self-Help Group, who claim to be the rightful owners of the public toilet at Lions Garden in Nakuru, allege that the MCA hired goons to harass them to give up ownership.
They insist that they were allocated the space to build the pay-to-use toilets by the County Government.
Senior Principal Magistrate Lillian Arika ruled that the suspects be released on Ksh. 20,000 bond each with an alternative cash bail of Ksh. 5,000 each.
The hearing of the case is scheduled for July 31, 2019.
