Yang Hu, a 26-year-old from east China, took drastic action due to his frustrations with not having a girlfriend. He cut off his own penis, believing he had no use for it since he saw no prospect of finding a partner. His decision was largely influenced by his long work hours at a clothing factory in Jiaxing, Zhejiang province, which he thought would prevent him from meeting a woman.
After realizing his mistake, Yang cycled to the hospital seeking treatment. However, doctors, shocked by his condition, instructed him to retrieve his severed penis to attempt reattachment. Unfortunately, upon his return, he had lost too much blood, and surgeons were unable to save the severed part.
Friends of Yang noted that his depression stemmed from his inability to find a girlfriend since moving to the city. His demanding work schedule further exacerbated his doubts about ever finding a partner.
