Kamba women demonstrated in Kangundo and Tala Towns in support of Machakos Senator Johnston Muthama, who had made comments about Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru and President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The women claimed that Muthama was being targeted by Jubilee politicians for speaking the truth about an alleged illicit affair between Kenyatta and Waiguru. They argued that this relationship is an open secret and cited the president's refusal to sack Waiguru despite her admission to losing Sh 791 million.
According to Anne Katile, the Matungulu Small Traders Association Chairperson, "Those Jubilee politicians agitating for the arrest and prosecution of Muthama are only motivated by selfish ethnic motives and we are telling them to leave him alone. Everybody knows Uhuru and Waiguru have something going on between them."
Background ¶
Muthama had previously alleged at a CORD rally that Kenyatta and Waiguru were having an affair, which he claimed explained the president's protection of her from prosecution over corruption allegations at her ministry and the National Youth Service (NYS).
