A 43-year-old woman in the UK, Deborah Hodges, has taken an unusual step to avoid being evicted from her rented house. She has decided to marry the house, which she calls Norman, in an attempt to raise awareness about her situation and garner support to stay in the property.
Hodges, who refers to the house as her husband, claims that Norman looks after her and her four children. She made the decision to hold a wedding ceremony after managing to raise only £56 of the £400,000 needed to purchase the house, which has been put up for sale.
The ceremony took place at the two-bedroom rented house in Bexleyheath, UK. Hodges stated, "I had a ceremony. I put my dress on. I don’t care – I have a method in my madness. I don’t care if people think I’m a nutter." She emphasized that she would have to be forcibly removed from the house, saying "kicking and screaming."
Hodges, who describes herself as an artist, has also created a video to spread her message and garner support for her cause. Despite having some income, including spending £2,800 on Christmas presents for her children, Hodges faces the prospect of living in a cramped space with her four children if she is evicted.
