A funeral in Sigali Village, Zimbabwe, was disrupted when 14-year-old Ashel Abigail Zananda, who had been presumed dead for three days, reportedly came back to life. According to eyewitnesses, she got out of her coffin, consumed porridge and water, but later died after being hospitalized.
Ashel Admore Mashonganyika, a cousin of the deceased, stated that Ashel Abigail Zananda had suffered from chronic headaches for nearly three months prior to her initial death. She passed away at her aunt's residence in Empress, where a prophetess was praying for her.
After Ashel's death, her family began making burial arrangements. However, the prophetess allegedly told them not to proceed with the burial, claiming the girl was still alive. This statement was made despite the fact that Ashel had been presumed dead for three days.
A report by Nehanda Radio noted that village leaders, relatives, and residents who witnessed the incident were perplexed. It remains unclear whether a medical professional or law enforcement had officially confirmed Ashel's death before the funeral.
The incident has sparked numerous questions, including speculation about whether Ashel was truly deceased at the time of the funeral, given the lack of confirmation from a medical specialist.
This event may be perceived as paranormal activity, and it has drawn attention to the region of Gokwe, which has been associated with practices of black magic. Earlier in the year, Zim Eye reported that efforts had been made to address witchcraft in the area, including the involvement of the army.
