The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) plans to partner with the Kenya Scouts Association to combat betting among youth, according to KFCB chairman Ezekiel Mutua.
Mr. Mutua made the announcement during the Founderee celebration of the scouting movement in Nyeri, stating that the moral code embedded in the scouting movement could help battle the gambling menace.
"The scouts movement in itself bears moral codes which we feel will help in the fight against betting. Through their programmes, we hope to empower them with knowledge that they can pass on to their peers," said Mr. Mutua.
The potential partnership will involve KFCB introducing mentorship programmes to scouts and girl guides, targeting the largest youth movement in Africa with over 1.4 million members.
"With their numbers, we hope to reach out to young people and teach them that they cannot rely on the ideology of acquiring wealth quickly through betting. We actually encourage more youth to become scouts," said the KFCB boss.
In addition to the partnership, Mr. Mutua announced plans to revive mobile cinemas as part of KFCB’s rebranding programme, dubbed Sinema Mashinani. The programme will be rolled out in the next six months and is currently being piloted in Isiolo County.
