July 23, 2019 - Former Football Kenya Federation president Sam Nyamweya has called for the immediate resignation of the current leadership, led by president Nick Mwendwa.
Nyamweya, who served as the longest-serving president of the then-Kenya Football Federation until 2016, has expressed his disappointment with the current state of football in the country.
He accused Mwendwa's office of prioritizing business deals with players over the standards of football, citing the recent transfer saga involving Sofapaka forward John Avire.
Kenya's Harambee Stars finished third in Group C at the 2019 AFCON, with a single win against Tanzania and twin defeats against Senegal and Algeria.
'I'm ashamed of the way Kenya played at the AFCON,' Nyamweya said. 'The soccer has deteriorated since I left.'
Nyamweya also questioned the decision to omit Allan Wanga from coach Sebastien Migne's squad, which led to Wanga's retirement from international football.
FKF chief Mwendwa has maintained that Migne's team is a project for the future, with eyes trained on the 2021 Africa Nations Cup in Cameroon.
