Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has expressed his desire to remain at the club for many years, following speculation about his potential departure to Manchester City.
Rodgers received the LMA Manager of the Year award last season after narrowly missing the Premier League title and subsequently signed a new four-year contract on 26 May 2014.
Despite an inconsistent start to the current campaign, Rodgers has steadied the team, with Liverpool becoming the Premier League's form team in 2015. This resurgence has led some to speculate about his potential move to Manchester City.
Rodgers, however, has dismissed such suggestions, stating his intention to build a lasting legacy at Liverpool. He said:
I’ve signed a deal here, and I want to be here to see that through. Then I hope I’ll have earned enough time to warrant another deal, to keep growing and building here.
Rodgers emphasized his commitment to the club, questioning where one would go after being part of an institution like Liverpool, which is among the world's biggest clubs. He reiterated his initial reason for joining Liverpool was the hope of a long tenure.
Rodgers acknowledged that his longevity at the helm depends on his ability to secure more trophies for Liverpool, saying:
I really wanted to be here, follow some incredible managers with a support that is unrivalled, and to have success while knowing I was young enough to create and build something. That is why I came here. I know I need to justify that by working well and winning trophies. I hope that is the next step.
He underscored the importance of winning trophies, not just for personal achievement but for the satisfaction of the supporters and the people involved with the club.
