A 41-year-old man in Zimbabwe has been arrested after his 22-year-old girlfriend discovered she was HIV positive, allegedly due to his actions.

The couple had been living together for two years and had a child together. However, the girlfriend found the man's medical records, which revealed he was HIV positive.

According to the state representative in the Bulawayo magistrate court, the girlfriend initially found cards from the Opportunistic Infections clinic and questioned the man about them. He reportedly laughed and claimed he got them from his grandmother.

The girlfriend then conducted her own investigation and got tested, discovering she was HIV positive. When she confronted the man again, he admitted to being on treatment.

The man has pleaded not guilty to the charges, denying he intentionally infected his girlfriend with HIV.

The recovered account cited reporting by Tuko.
