A businessman from Nyanza has accused Raila Odinga of harassing him because he refused to fund his campaigns. Calvin Burges, the CEO of Dominion Farms Ltd, claims he has been forced to flee the country due to threats to his life.
According to Calvin Burges, he has been facing eviction threats and violence after he refused to finance Raila's campaigns, citing that it would be against US laws where he comes from. The Nation reports that Raila's associates have hired goons who have been blocking him from accessing his farm.
Calvin Burges also claims that Raila's sister, Ruth Odinga, owes him money for goods supplied five years ago.
"Ms Ruth Odinga pressed us hard to become a dealer in a prime location in Kisumu and we gave in. She took the rice and is yet to pay for it five years later,"
he is quoted as saying.
The American businessman has written a letter to the police and the Interior ministry asking for security officers to be deployed to his farm to ward off goons. He alleges that Raila has been intimidating him using a local MCA, Leonard Otieno Oriaro, while Siaya Governor Cornell Rasanga has threatened to take over Dominion farm land.
Calvin Burges claims that the MCA used a group to beat him and his employees on three different occasions, forcing him to flee the country. Dominion Farms Ltd, located in Yala Swamp, is a diversified farming operation in Western Kenya producing long grain rice, fish, and other agricultural products under the Prime Harvest brand.
