The song Nerea sparked widespread discussion across Kenya, with its theme of abortion resonating with many Kenyans who have either undergone the procedure or know someone who has.
Robert Alai, a controversial online commentator, criticized the song on Twitter, prompting a response from Bien-Aimé, a member of the music group Sauti Sol.
Bien-Aimé stated,
We are not the moral compass; we are just telling the story. However you want to consume it (the message) as a country, as a people, is entirely up to you.
He further emphasized that the issue of abortion needs to be addressed, citing the risks and consequences associated with it. Bien-Aimé also stressed the importance of responsibility, saying
If you are man enough to pull off your actions, you should be ready to take the responsibility.
