A public feud has erupted between David Matsanga, a Ugandan national living in Nairobi, and Steve Kewa, a Nairobi-based Kalenjin businessman, with accusations and counteraccusations exchanged over the past week.
The controversy began after Moses Kuria made statements about the ICC case against William Ruto, which prompted Kalenjin young professionals, led by Kewa, to demand that all individuals involved in fixing the case come forward and confess.
Matsanga became embroiled in the dispute when Kewa alleged that he was among those who had helped fix the case, leading to a war of words between the two men. Matsanga responded by making personal attacks against Kewa, which the Kalenjin community has taken as an offense.
Eldoret residents have expressed bitterness towards Matsanga, accusing him of working against their interests and attempting to scandalize Kewa. The Kalenjin elites have vowed to take action against Matsanga, threatening to deport him to Uganda and teach him a political lesson.
Some have even suggested offering Matsanga as a gift to Pope Francis during his visit to Kenya in October. The young and wealthy Kalenjins have pledged to use all means necessary to counter Matsanga's claims and protect their community's interests.
