On July 19, 2019, a patient at MP Shah Hospital succumbed to the deadly influenza virus, sparking concerns among the public.
However, the hospital's management has moved swiftly to reassure the public that everything remains under control.
According to a statement released on July 18, 2019, the hospital acknowledged that a patient was brought in with signs and symptoms of a respiratory tract infection, which worsened and led to the patient's death the following day.
The hospital has since taken measures to control the disease, including treating another patient who was admitted with similar symptoms and is currently in stable condition.
Experts from the Ministry of Health have advised that the strain is part of the seasonal influenza strains, and constant surveillance is being carried out by authorities.
MP Shah Hospital has urged the public not to panic, advising those with flu-like symptoms to follow coughing etiquette and hygiene practices.
“If anyone has symptoms and fever not responding to common antipyretic medication, kindly seek medical attention from the nearest hospital,” the hospital's statement read.
