A suspected gangster, identified as Tomaso, was recently shot dead by police during an operation targeting criminals in Nairobi. According to a commenter on Kenyan List, Tomaso's friend and accomplice, Lenny, had also been shot dead by police just a week earlier.
Tomaso had changed his Facebook profile picture to honor Lenny's memory, indicating a close relationship between the two. Despite the warning sign of his friend's death, Tomaso continued his involvement in criminal activities, ultimately meeting a similar fate.
Gang Culture and Activities ¶
The teenage gang members often post about their activities on Facebook, including displays of guns and money allegedly stolen from innocent Kenyans. Some posts express desires to commit violent acts, such as rape, against women in Nairobi due to their dressing.
A distinctive aspect of these gangs is their admiration for Jamaican Dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel, who is currently facing murder charges. Members have been known to worship him, with one young Kenyan boy photographed holding a Bible while venerating Vybz Kartel.
