Published on July 23, 2019, Nairobi motorists are in for a rough ride as the Kenya Urban Road Authority (Kura) has announced plans to close parts of the Outer Ring Road for four days.
The closure, which will take place from Thursday to Sunday, is to facilitate the installation of a footbridge near Avenue Park Estate.
According to Kura, a diversion has been provided and motorists are advised to follow the route as directed by traffic marshals.
‘We urge the public to be patient as we strive to improve our roads and ensure they are safe and efficient,’ Kura said in a statement.
The Outer Ring Road, a 13km stretch constructed by Chinese firm Sino Hydro Tianjin Engineering Limited, has been criticized for lacking essential features such as service and emergency lanes, footbridges, and road markings.
As part of its efforts to address these concerns, Kura is set to erect 11 footbridges at a cost of Sh880 million.
