Former cabinet minister Mukhisa Kituyi is reportedly planning to form his own political party ahead of the 2022 transition polls, a move that could shake up the political landscape in Western Kenya.

According to sources, Kituyi is working on a political pact with Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Mureithi, who is Mwai Kibaki's nephew. This alliance has the potential to ruffle feathers in their respective regions and beyond.

Kituyi, a former Trade minister and eloquent public speaker, is said to be eyeing the presidency, with Mureithi potentially serving as his running mate. This move could give Senator Moses Wetang'ula, who is also from the region, a run for his money.

Wetang'ula has been accused of presiding over the decline of Ford Kenya, a party that was once a major force in the region. Kituyi's new party could potentially alter the political equation in Bungoma and Trans Nzoia counties, both of which are believed to be Wetang'ula's strongholds.
