Police in Kitui County intervened on Wednesday to rescue an assistant chief who had been held captive by the public.
Kithome Kiolonzo, from Malili sub-location, was found locked up in the house of a woman.
According to reports, the chief had spent time at the woman's house, prompting villagers to keep vigil outside.
