A woman, Ms Angel Mutuku, has pleaded guilty to causing bodily harm after severing her husband's external genitalia.
Ms Mutuku appeared before a Mombasa court on Monday, admitting to the offense contrary to section 251 of the penal code. The incident occurred on February 16 in the Magongo area, according to the prosecution.
Her husband, Stephen Ochieng Oyuga, is currently undergoing treatment at Bomu Medical Centre. The altercation began at 5:30 am when Ms Mutuku slapped Mr. Oyuga on the back, accusing him of oversleeping.
As stated in the Changamwe police statement, "The complaint was asleep at around 05:30 hrs when his wife slapped him on the back and started accusing him of sleeping for too long."
Following the slap, Mr. Oyuga retaliated, and Ms Mutuku subsequently used a small kitchen knife to commit the act. Afterward, she left for work, having also arranged for Mr. Oyuga's brother to take him to the hospital.
The trial magistrate ordered Ms Mutuku's detention until Wednesday, pending the reading of the case facts and possible additional charges.
