Less than a week after the burial of Nderitu Gachagua, the political landscape in Nyeri is heating up, led by newly appointed Governor Samuel Wamathai.

Wamathai has declared his intention to retain his seat, signaling his determination to stay in office beyond his current appointment.

Furthermore, Wamathai announced that he would keep the current team at the office, choosing not to exercise his constitutional power to appoint a new team.

According to Wamathai, his decision to reappoint the existing team stems from his confidence in their performance. "I decided to reappoint them because I have confidence in what they have been doing," he stated.

Wamathai, formerly Gachagua’s deputy, was sworn in as governor on February 27, 2017, following the death of Governor Nderitu Gachagua in a London hospital. He plans to contest the next election on a Jubilee ticket.
