The Central Bank of Kenya governor, Prof Njuguna Ndung'u, has appealed to the Court of Appeal to halt his arrest and prosecution related to a Sh1.2 billion tender scandal.
Last year, Prof Ndung'u lost a case at the High Court, where Justice George Odunga refused to stop his prosecution.
Justice Odunga ruled that Prof Ndung'u should defend himself in a trial court, without determining his guilt or innocence.
Represented by lawyer Donald Kipkorir, Prof Ndung'u has petitioned the appellate court to prevent the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) from bringing charges against him.
Court of Appeal Judge Patrick Kiage has granted a stay of proceedings pending the hearing of Prof Ndung'u's appeal.
According to Justice Kiage,
"It is proper for the applicant to seek reprieve, he has a right to be heard at a higher court."
