Mike Sonko, the founder of Sonko Rescue Team, recently addressed the controversy surrounding the firing of his team's chairman, Mathias Owino Ogweno, also known as Swaleh.
According to Sonko, the decision to fire Swaleh stemmed from an incident on April 11, 2015, where Swaleh allegedly hit and damaged a car belonging to Mercy Murugi. Instead of apologizing, Swaleh became abusive and threatened Murugi.
Murugi tweeted about the incident, which caught Sonko's attention. He personally apologized to Murugi and repaired her car. Following an investigation, Swaleh was suspended on April 15, 2015, due to his behavior.
Sonko stated that further investigations revealed Swaleh was working with his political opponents to tarnish his reputation and disband the Sonko Rescue Team. The team received multiple complaints about Swaleh's misconduct, leading to his removal as chairman.
Sonko emphasized that he does not condone any form of indiscipline within the team and encouraged the public to report any instances of misconduct by team members.
He also expressed concern over the involvement of youths in crime due to unfavorable circumstances and reiterated his commitment to positively changing their lives through the Sonko Rescue Team.
