Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) conducted airstrikes in Anole and Kuday in the Lower Jubba region, Somalia, resulting in the deaths of more than 80 Al Shabaab fighters, according to the African Union force fighting the extremists.
The air strikes targeted the villages of Anole and Kuday in the southern Lower Juba region as part of the 22,000-strong AU mission in Somalia (Amisom) offensive, which was launched in March to capture remaining towns from the Islamists.
The airstrikes occurred one week after al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for twin massacres on Kenya’s coast, where at least 60 people were killed. However, Nairobi attributed those attacks to local political networks.
