Zahra Moi Joins Tourism Research Institute Board in Latest State Appointments

Zahra Moi, the wife of Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, has been appointed as a board member of the Tourism Research Institute.

According to a Kenya Gazette notice published on Friday, Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala announced that Mrs. Moi's appointment took effect from May 31, replacing Dr. Margaret Wawuda Mwakima.

Background and Qualifications

Mrs. Moi holds a Bachelor of Science in International Business Administration, which she earned with a Magna Cum Laude degree from the United States International University (USIU) in August 2015. This distinction is awarded to students with a GPA of above 3.7 out of 4.0, equivalent to a First Class Honors in the Kenyan and British systems.

In 2012, Mrs. Moi was required to explain to the Public Investments Committee how a company she owned acquired a property from the receiver manager, Omondi Mbago, a former registrar-general.

Other Appointments

The appointments also included former Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Ole Lenku, who was appointed as a member and Non-Executive Chairperson of the SACCO Societies Regulatory Authority (SASRA) for a three-year term. Other notable appointees include former cabinet ministers Noah Katana Ngala and Gideon Ndambuki, as well as conservationist Paula Kahumbu, who will serve as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the National Museums of Kenya Board for three years.

Additionally, writer and founder of Story Moja, Muthoni Garland, was appointed as a member of the Kenya Cultural Centre Board, replacing Former Kenya Airports Authority Deputy boss, Naomi Cidi Kumbatha, whose appointment was revoked.
