On July 21, 2019, Lamu Division Criminal Investigations Officer (DCIO) Robert Onchiri died under mysterious circumstances in his Lamu home. According to police, Onchiri fell on the staircase of his house on Sunday night and later bled as he was being taken to a local hospital.
Onchiri, who was set to take over in Urban, Mombasa in the same capacity after being transferred there the previous week, fractured his left leg above the ankle. His body is set to be transferred to Nairobi on Tuesday.
Police say they are yet to know the cause of the death, and a post-mortem is planned on the body. DCI George Kinoti described Onchiri as a hardworking officer as he mourned the death.
