At a memorial service held at Kahawa Sukari Deliverance Church, mourners gathered to pay their respects to Grace Nduta Mwaura, an Engineering student at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology who was found dismembered and disembowelled after being reported missing for several days.
According to reports, Grace's brother, Charles Kibe Mwaura, 24, is accused of murdering her on or about January 25 following a quarrel over a bowl of Weetabix cereal. He is currently in police custody awaiting trial.
Family and Friends Mourn the Loss ¶
Grace's father, Elizaphan Mwaura Kibe, delivered a heartfelt tribute to his daughter, describing her as his best friend. He recalled the last time he saw her, when she helped him pack his swimming gear. His voice quivered as he spoke, and his wife wept openly beside him.
Elizaphan Mwaura Kibe said, "You were not only my daughter but my best friend."
When he struggled to continue reading his written tribute, he asked a friend, Simon Ngige, to take over. Before handing over, he managed to say, "Always call me Baba, Grace," a request that reflected his desire to keep her memory alive.
A fellow Engineering student, Victoria Gakii, remembered Grace as a caring and hardworking individual who was full of life and a committed Christian.
A Painful Loss ¶
The family and friends of Grace Nduta Mwaura are struggling to come to terms with the loss of a loved one and the fact that her brother is accused of the crime. As they try to make sense of the tragedy, they will undoubtedly remember the happy times they shared with Grace.
