Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has described the move by the Non-Governmental Organisations Coordination Board to deregister his foundation as malicious and politically driven.
A letter allegedly from the NGOs Coordination Board, dated February 21, 2017, and signed by Executive Director Fazul Mahamed, informed the chairman of The Evans Kidero Foundation of the cancellation of its registration due to failure to submit annual audited returns.
However, Dr. Kidero claims that his foundation had submitted all the required audited reports and wonders why the NGO board overlooked them. He also stated that they provided the names of donors and financiers as required.
According to Dr. Kidero, the foundation's accounts had only Sh44,366, which contradicts allegations that billions were deposited. He believes the board's actions are a result of "mischief" and an attempt to intimidate him.
"I read mischief by the Non-Governmental Organizations Coordination Board to publicize the foundation instead of using the proper channel to serve the respective persons. I will not be cowed by small politics carried out by Jubilee," Dr. Kidero said.
Dr. Kidero attributes the alleged interference to tension within the Jubilee camp following the mass voter registration in Nairobi, which did not favor them.
