President Uhuru Kenyatta's choice for the Mombasa county governorship seat, Suleiman Shahbal, has been rejected by some Jubilee Party supporters. They accuse Shahbal of being partisan and selective in distributing party resources.
Aspirants seeking various seats in Mombasa through the Jubilee Party ticket claim that Shahbal favors certain individuals over others. According to one aspirant quoted by Nation, resources tend to go to selected people while the majority are left out.
This development comes after Deputy President William Ruto announced Shahbal as Jubilee's preferred candidate for Mombasa governor. Shahbal will be deputized by former MP Ananiah Mwaboza and will face off against Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, a strong critic of Jubilee and a supporter of Raila Odinga.
The decision to choose Shahbal was made following discussions aimed at resolving infighting between him and Mwaboza.
